Last week was a trip I’ll never forget - it was an incredible milestone for me setting out on the classic Spearhead Traverse. We had the unique experience of being the first ones out breaking trail and testing our route finding skills.
Although the weather was at times uncooperative, with visibility coming in and out - we kept on through the humbling mountains of the Spearhead Range. The vistas were absolutely spectacular traversing from Blackcomb to Whistler. This challenging ski traverse is a rite of passage requiring a culmination of skills.
We took three days and two nights of winter camping to complete the journey. Spearhead Traverse is 35 km crossing 13 glaciers with endless views. The goal was to do the traverse prior to the awesome series of Spearhead huts are being constructed. It was an incredible feeling to be immersed the mountains in my hometown – so close to Whistler Blackcomb ski resort yet feeling so remote. This trip brought me closer to my goals not only as a skier and photographer, but as a human finding seeking out memorable experiences that push our personal boundaries.
These photos are a memoir of our journey through the Spearhead. Look at these photos and see the vistas conquered and remember the challenges that we all overcome. A perfect piece for an office and for moments when you need inspiration. All you have to do is look out onto these wide-open snowscapes and remember that the possibilities are endless.
